I'm participating in The Creative Maven's Sew 5 Challenge. This is project #1...although I have done a few others and ran out of fabric on another--just need to get photos together.
After putting
way too much thought into how to do the hanky hem...I finally found a
tutorial that made me think I am losing my mind. What I tried so hard to imagine...turned out to be a square. DUH!
I have used this knit, in a different color, to make a similar
top, but wanted something a little different. I used part of the pattern,
Simplicity 5695, again and didn't make it as long and added the hanky hem skirt to the bottom. I love the way the stripes are at an angle on the skirt part--it is exactly how I wanted it.
I used this tutorial to figure out the waist of the skirt--used the measurement of the bottom of the top instead of her actual waist.
My shortcut this time was to fold/iron the casing of the elastic before I sewed the pieces together
I had the dress hanging on Jilli Bean's door this morning. When she woke up she was said, "Potty! Potty! Potty! [saw the dress] Cute! Potty! Potty!" I think she liked it. I made a rosette and attached that to a piece of elastic for a headband...she always has something in her hair.

I added a loop of ribbon to the back since the
front/back are similar. |

Cute! I love the matching hairband.
